I now own masseffectLEsaves.com (nothing there yet) and there's a plan in motion to get it up and running in the next few days, maybe by end of the weekend. Hopefully also getting uploads fixed in the first two games.
There may be other news on the horizon, but for now there is a plan to accept MELE1 saves soon!
I am looking for some MELE1 saves to manually test with and host. After finishing MELE1, a new "Char" folder is created inside your "Documents --> Bioware --> Mass Effect Legendary Edition --> Save --> ME1" folder. Please email me your Char##.pcsav files at email@example.com with a description of your Shepard (Gender, History, Level, Romance, Virmire Survivor, Councillor, Wrex Alive, Paragon/Renegade, if you did most quests, anything else important) or tweet me @annakie if you can help. Thanks!
**5/16/2021 MELE Spectre Gear Bug Workaround Savefile***
If you need a savefile for the Spectre Gear bug workaround fix, here's one standing right in front of Anderson before becoming a Spectre.
From what I've heard, just create a folder called "Annakie01" in your Documents --> Bioware --> Mass Effect Legendary Edition --> Save --> ME1 folder, and drop that save in there. Load it in your game, then go through the cutscene. Afterwards, go straight to the Requisitions Officer at C-Sec Academy, open the store and make sure Spectre gear is available. Make a new save.
After that, load up your own game and Spectre gear should be sold in that store again.
**5/14/2021 LEGENDARY RELEASE DAY***
Happy MELE release day everyone! I'm sure you're wondering how Mass Effect Saves work with MELE, and, well, there's good news and bad news.
First, the bad news, and it's pretty bad for now. Original ME1 (OME1) save files used a format called .MassEffectSave, and there were also profile files called .MassEffectProfile.
OME2 and OME3 used a format called .pcsav.
When you imported a character from OME1 into OME2, something behind the scenes did the work to look for and convert those .MassEffectSave files to read it and start ME2 as .pcsav files.
Well, MELE1 just... uses .pcsav files. I've done a little testing and as far as I can tell, MELE2 won't recognize those .MassEffectSave files to import to MELE2. I also tried just changing the filenames to see if that would work by some miracle, but no, it does not.
The good news is that... from the limited amount of testing done so far, ANY OME2 save file should import just fine to MELE3, so masseffect2saves.com is still 100% useful. Also your old OME2 and OME3 files should open and work just fine in MELE2 and MELE3, respectively. I've tested this some and everything feels good, my Shepard just looked a little weird.
However, unfortunately, that means the entirety of the masseffectsaves.com ME1 library doesn't work for importing to MELE2 right now.
There is sort of a work around which, in theory, should work. If you import a OME1 file into OME2, then after waking up on the Cerberus base, exit the game, open that new .pcsav file in Gibbed's, and flag it as a completed save, then save it as a new save... that save should, in theory, open in MELE2 if you start it as a NG+ import. I don't know if that works yet, I'll have to test.
Or, just grab a OME2 save file from masseffect2saves.com and start that as a NG+ in MELE2.
**5/19/2020** XBOX Page Update!
GOOD NEWS EVERYONE! The XBox360 page has been updated with all-new links for moving saves to/from PC/XBox 360. Does this work with XBox One? I don't know, I don't own one. Someone want to try it and tweet me the answer (@annakie)? Thanks to /u/mirh for the updated conversion site link, it only took me four months to see it!
**3/31/2020** Small Downtime!
Hey everyone, my hosting provider upgraded/moved some stuff around on the backend of the site, and we had to change DNS servers, so you may have experienced some short downtime while the DNS updated. If you're reading this, it should be all over now.
It's also come to my attention that Shepard submitting is broken. We're not sure why. It's being looked at, may continue to be broken for a while. I'll post again when it's not! Thanks to ThinkingNessaja and TheLone_SheWolf for letting me know!
**10/7/2019** Stuff was Borked + Updates!
I missed an announcement from my hosting provider that they were no longer going to support the version of php the site was built on, and so save downloading was broken for about a week. Thanks to /r/masseffect & several people on Twitter for alerting me. After updating the php, we're back up and running again, hopefully for a very long time! Sorry for the downtime, anyone who was unable to download a save!
I fixed up the Mods section, removing a lot of broken links, and uploaded a version of RoadCrewWrecker's Coalesced editor for ME2 with a lot of the now-vanished mods from the BSN included. This was the version I have always used. There's a lot of things in there that would now not be considered properly credited because they've been lost to the ether with the BSN shutting down. Let me know if your mod is in there and you want credit!
I also updated the FAQ, the Xbox 360 page, and several other pages including the me2saves front page to remove broken/outdated information and update them to what's current, and cleaned the header up some. Also, the import page has been updated with instructions and screenshots for Windows 10 instead of... Vista...
**9/20/2019** It's 2019, Let's do an update!
Hey everyone! It's been exactly two and a half years since I did an update, so I guess it's about time!?
I approved "new" saves today, aka everything since early 2017. If you filled out the text box correctly, your save(s) has been approved. If you left the text box blank or just copied the questions in there without answering, your save was deleted. Also, I've always meant to say this, but so many of you leave nice messages for me at the bottom of the text box. It always makes me smile when I read them, thank you guys for that! I always delete them before approving, but they do mean a lot to me.
I've gotten more lazy about making sure the text box is formatted correctly, but if there's a good amount of information in there, it's approved. I didn't keep count but there were probably over 20 from each game approved today. Look for new saves in March, 2022 at this rate! :D
Hey do you have like, old mods that aren't on the Nexus that you think should be hosted somewhere? Or copies of BSN old posts that are useful that you think should be hosted somewhere? Let me know @annakie on twitter, maybe I can host those things where people may see them? I'm willing to help out with such things if they're necessary. Remember I do have mods hosted here, too. See the menu at the top of the page.
On a personal note, I'm pretty sad there's been no Mass Effect news lately, let's hope Bioware has a secret project that will surprise us all. Andromeda was a good game with some definite flaws, and it didn't deserve the hate it got, so I'm still keeping my fingers crossed.
I'm on my like eleventh playthrough of the original trilogy now. The amazing mods coming out for the games, especially ME3, have helped keep the series fresh. If you can, play the game on PC and head over to the Nexus sites for each game. My eternal love to the modders for Mass Effect Happy Ending Mod (+ other ending mod flavors like LIME and JAM), Citadel Epilogue Mod (aka the "I actually look forward to the ending now" mod), Expanded Galaxy Mod + all its extras, ME1/2/3 Recalibrated, Hair Mods as DLC, FemShep's Closet, ThaneMod & BackOff, MEModder, Priority Earth Overhaul Mod, Better Journal, Operation Paladin, Spectre Expansion Mod, Lights Effect, Project Variety, Respawn, ME3Explorer, Ark Mod, Omega Hub, Better Dreams, ALOT, and all the texture modders. I'm sure I forgot some of the ones that I love, sorry! But honestly, I couldn't imagine playing ME3 especially without all you guys ever again. <3
And to re-iterate, this site and masseffect2saves aren't going anywhere anytime soon. Still over 2k visitors a day(!!). The site doesn't even pay for itself anymore what with adblockers blocking out the few ads I have up, but I don't care. This site is for the fandom. Be good to each other.
**3/20/2017** Andromeda Launch Update!
We now know that original trilogy saves do not import into Andromeda. Therefore, the fact that I never got ME3saves up and running isn't much of an issue.
In addition, Bioware has gotten around to doing their own save file system with Mass Effect Archives. It's likely that from here, Bioware will probably do a Dragon Age Keep thing. So, any further Mass Effect Save site would likely be redundant, and that's before if Gibbed gets around to doing his own save tools.
I want to stress again, though, that Masseffectsaves.com and masseffect2saves.com WILL stay up for the forseeable future. Like, years. I may not do another update here ever again, but if I don't, I'm still going to keep paying the domain hosting bill as long as people keep visiting the site. I still get about 2500 visitors per day here and 1500 to ME2saves, so if it's still useful, it's staying around.
I did update the FAQ to have 2017 answers instead of 2011, and moved all of the pre-2017 news off this front page to the News Archive
PC players, Nexusmods now has sections for all 3 ME games with a lot of great mods there. I highly recommend you go there for your mods needs now that Bioware shut theirs down. Some of the stuff I host here is still useful, and not on Nexusmods though. Just sayin'. I wrote a blog post over here with some recommendations which will completely refresh your ME3 game. Hope this helps!
